GREAT WHITE SHARK CAGE DIVING
» GREAT WHITE SHARK CAGE DIVING SOUTH AFRICA
Great White Shark cage diving in South Africa begins at the picturesque Kleinbaai harbour near Gansbaai, with excursions going out to Geyser and Dyer Island. Geyser Island is home to a permanent colony of approximately 40 000 Cape Fur Seals.
The channel between these islands is renowned worldwide to be the best place to observe; encounter and cage dive with the Great White Shark and is known as "Shark Alley".
Great White Sharks are often portrayed as this man-eating monster of the seas but by exercising proper education procedures we can protect the white shark successfully.
We use only the best shark operators that maintain the highest standards and who comply with the strictest code of conduct and safety for both diver and shark as laid down by our local Marine & Coastal Management.
All crew are experienced on our waters and have had long ties to the sea their main priority is your safety and well being. Sharing their years of knowledge in working with sharks their goal is to lead you to a better understanding of sharks.
All you need to qualify to do the shark cage dive is to feel comfortable in a cage in water.
Always bear in mind that when dealing with wildlife one cannot always guarantee seeing White Sharks on every trip.
An " Experience of a Lifetime " meeting this magnificent animal face to face for the first time in his own environment, will be forever imprinted in your memory!
» GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT CAGE DIVING IN GANSBAAI:

The trip at sea
Arriving at the anchoring spot in 20-40 minutes. The anchor is put down, the cage goes into the water, a scent trail is laid and we wait for the sharks too arrive. The rest of the day is spent watching, cage diving and enjoying the day. The trip out at sea between 4/5 hours.
Cage dive
The cage is lowered into the water and attached to the side of the boat approximately 100cm is above the surface. Once the sharks arrive and feel comfortable with the boat and cage in the water, the first divers assisted by the dive master, get dressed into (5mm wet-suits, hoody, bootie, mask and weights) and slip into a 5 man cage, ready to see these magnificent animals face too face. Once in the cage there is an inner barrier which you hold onto and one for your feet aswell. The dive master standing on the boat above the cage, will inform you when the shark is within your viewing range to hold your breath and go down, your head is just below the surface of the water. He will also assist you in getting in and out of the cage, if you might feel uncomfortable at any stage. Each dive is approximately 30 minutes.
